D - Describe an example of when you used that term (referring to ASD[R])
E - Explain it’s importance (relating to the Q)
A - Analyse why it’s important by breaking down different elements of the description, how this demonstrates the identified term and in relation to the explained importance specified

Section B example question:
“Explain how you used physical skills and attributes safely within your solo set phrases performance.”(6 marks)
I - Identify a specific physical skill
D - Define that physical skill
D - Describe an example of when you used that physical skill from the set phrases (referring to ASD)
E - Explain why this kept you safe: did it prevent a specific injury?
A - Analyse why it’s important by breaking down different elements of the description, how this demonstrates the physical skill mentioned and in relation to the explained importance specified
REPEAT THE PROCESS WITH A NEW POINT
I - Identify 1 physical skill that you have used in your set phrases (and name the set phrase): For example: In my set phrase “Breathe”, I used the physical skill alignment…
D - Define that physical skill: For example: … which is when a body part is in the correct placement, in relation to another body part, creating “a line”.
D - Describe a specific movement from the set phrase mentioned, referring to Actions, Space and Dynamics. If you struggle to do this in detail, remember to use “A dynamic action on a space”:
For example:
I used alignment when performing a soft step towards the upstage right corner, whilst performing a smooth, extended reach with my right arm towards the downstage left corner, making sure my hand is in line with my shoulder, and that my right knee is bent over the toe as I lunge on that leg.
E - Explain by writing a statement as to what injury this could prevent: For example: ¨The use of alignment during this movement kept my joints safe and protected them from dislocating or sprains because…
A - Analyse using the following to help you:
How is the definition presented in the actions, space or dynamics?
How is the explained statement demonstrated in the actions, space or dynamics?
Does it do anything else? Is it aesthetically pleasing? Does it communicate an intention? Does it captivate the audience?
For example: … the knee placed over the toe prevents the ankle from sickling and spraining, and stops the knee from inverting and putting a strain on the ligaments and cartilage and possible dislocation. In addition, the alignment of the arm during the reach is also aesthetically pleasing as it created a lovely extension throughout the body and created a yearning, reaching sensation coupled with the smooth dynamic.
This IDDEA point then looks like: In my set phrase “Breathe”, I used the physical skill alignment… … which is when a body part is in the correct placement, in relation to another body part, creating “a line”. But that will only get you one mark! You HAVE to complete this twice to access 6/6 marks! Only talking about 1 skill with 1 description caps you at 1 mark…
For your second point:
I - Identify a 2nd specific physical skill D - Define that 2nd physical skill D - Describe a DIFFERENT example of when you used that physical skill from the set phrases (referring to ASD) E - Explain why this kept you safe: did it prevent a specific injury? MUST be different from the first explanation! A -Analyse why it’s important by breaking down different elements of the description, how this demonstrates the physical skill mentioned and in relation to the explained importance specified
A 6 Mark Example: In my set phrase “Breathe”, I used the physical skill alignment, which is when a body part is in the correct placement, in relation to another body part, creating “a line”. I used alignment when performing a soft locomotive step towards the upstage right corner, whilst performing a smooth, extended reaching gesture with my right arm towards the downstage left corner, making sure my hand is in line with my shoulder, and that my right knee is bent over the toe as I lunge on that leg. The use of alignment during this movement kept my joints safe and protected them from dislocating or sprains because the knee placed over the toe prevents the ankle from sickling and spraining, and stops the knee from inverting and putting a strain on the ligaments and cartilage and possible dislocation. In addition, the alignment of the arm during the reach is also aesthetically pleasing as it created a lovely extension throughout the body and created a yearning, reaching sensation coupled with the smooth dynamic. In my set phrase “Breathe”, I also used the physical skill control, which is the ability to start or stop movements, change direction or hold a body shape. I used control when performing a slow rise up onto demi pointe, whilst lifting through the torso to extend the spine into a high release of the upper back, lifting the head and opening the arms up into a reaching gesture towards the ceiling, as I locomote off-balance towards the downstage right corner. The use of control during this movement prevented me from falling over because the slow dynamic allowed me to gradually transfer the weight onto the balls of my feet. In addition, the lifting up of my torso enabled me to engage my core muscles, keeping them tight whilst balancing on a smaller centre of gravity. The use of the core muscles during the torso, arm and head lifts allowed me to control the subsequent fall into the run afterwards, as more core and counterbalancing of these body parts allowed me to softly fall safely, instead of heavily with impact and ricking the safety of my joints.
COMMON MISTAKES:
If you’re below 2/6 marks: Not clearly identifying 2 skills/elements / remembering to complete IDDEA TWICE Misunderstanding the question, so as not to write the wrong identifications
If you’re below 6/6 marks: Not including the definition in your answer Forgetting to refer to the definition, description and explanation in your analysis Writing in an unclear or vague manner
